Flammability of Interior Materials

Vertical Flammability Test The Oxygen Index Test
Glow Wire Test Horizontal Flammability Test
Needle-flame Test Flammability of Interior Materials

Standard:

8410-2006 FMVSS, 571.302-2013 ISO, 3795-1989 GB, etc.

Scope:

Seat cushion, seat cover, trunk mat mat, steering wheel cover, pillow, pillow, waist etc.

Sample requirement:

356 * 100 or 102 * thickness < 13mm.

Sample pretreatment:

23℃±2℃, 45%~55% environment to regulate at least 24h, but not more than 168h.

Conformity assessment requirements:

The horizontal burning rate is not more than 100mm/min (according to different standards, there are 102mm/min, 80mm/min, etc.).

Case

Typical cases

Reference standard:

GB 8410-2006 Flammability of automotive interior materials

Tested Condition:

Sample Size:356mm×100mm×3mm; Flame Height: 38mm; Ignition time: 15s; Maximal Burning Rate shall not exceed 100mm/min.

Test results:

Tested Sample Test Results(mm/min) Conclusion
--------- 1 D-30.2 Pass
2 D-30.8
3 D-31.4
4 D-29.5
5 D-29.9
max D-31.4

Remarks:

1. After being exposed to the flame for 15 seconds and then stop, the sample shall not burning or it is able to burn but stop before a flame reaches the first line, so it complies with the burn rate requirements and its burn rate shall be recorded as A-0mm/min.

2. If the sample burns less than 60s from beginning measuring, and the flame does not reach 50mm,then the sample also complies with the burn rate requirements, its burn rate shall be recorded as B.

3. If the sample self-extinguishes between the two lines from beginning measuring, and does not comply with the 2th,then we should calculate the actual burn rate, and record it as C-burn rate mm/min.

4. If the sample burns to the second line, or we stop the flame on our own,(the sample burns very slowly, then we can stop the test after 20 min, and record burn time and burn extent)then we should also calculate the actual burn rate, and record it as D-burn rate mm/min.

5. If the sample burns to the first line within exposing to the flame’s 15s, then it does not comply with the burn rate requirements, and its burn rate shall be recorded as E.
